UT-Permian Basin put up three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie Saturday afternoon's third and final game of the weekend against New Mexico Highlands at 4-4, but the Falcons were the first to surrender in extra innings as the Cowboys scored three times in the top of the 11th to knock off the Falcons 7-4.
Bryan Van Vranken opened up the UTPB scoring in the fourth, hitting a double into left that scored
Jack Miller to cut into a 3-0 Highlands lead..
After the Cowboys got the run back in the fifth, the Falcon offense broke open in the sixth.
Tyler Houlihan walked with the bases loaded to score the first of the inning. Van Vranken later scored on a ground ball put out at second, and
Doug Clapperton tied the game at 4-4 when he scored on a wild pitch.
New Mexico Highlands put up three unearned runs in the top of the 11th to pick up the win.
Alex Gutierrez threw the final 5.2 innings in relief for Highlands, shutting out UTPB and striking out eight while only allowing a pair of hits.
Miller led the Falcons with a 3-4 day at the plate and a run scored, while Van Vranken ended up 2-5 with a run and an RBI.
UTPB is back at home Tuesday, taking on Wayland Baptist at 2 p.m.
