Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Big First Half Puts Falcons in Hole at Newman

A cold shooting first half put the Falcons in a 20-point hole at halftime Thursday night, one that UT-Permian Basin men's basketball was unable to recover from in an 89-73 loss at Newman in Wichita, Kan.

UTPB hit just 25 percent of its attempts in the first half, shooting 9-35 from the field while only converting on one of three attempts at the free throw line to trail 43-23 after 20 minutes of action.

The Falcons out-scored the Jets 50-46 in the second half, more than doubling their first half output behind a 24 point half from Johnnie Lacy. Lacy connected on six shots from 3-point range in the half and made all six attempts at the free throw line.

Lacy ended the night leading UTPB and all scorers with 27 points off of seven made 3-pointers.

Gary Akbar contributed 15 points and nine rebounds on 6-9 shooting, and Sam Stirgus hit four 3-pointers, scoring 13 points on the night.

UTPB closes out the regular season at Oklahoma Christian, taking on the Eagles Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
