Falcons Win Third Straight at Home with 92-72 win against Oklahoma Panhandle State

UT-Permian Basin featured a balanced attack from its starting lineup on offense and all-around solid shooting Thursday night as the Falcons scored a 92-72 victory against Oklahoma Panhandle State in Heartland Conference action.

All five starters features in double figures for the Falcons on the night as the starting unit combined to shoot 54 percent from the field on the evening.

UTPB trailed early on as most of the first half was tightly contested, but the Falcons found some separation on a Gary Akbar layup with 2:17 remaining in the first half that put UTPB on top by four. Darnell Vandivort then scored the final four points of the half for the Falcons, hitting a three with 1:08 to play and connecting on one of two free throws with five seconds left for a 38-31 halftime advantage.

Vandivort helped the offense break away in the opening minutes after halftime, hitting a pair from 3-point land on back-to-back possessions as part of a 10-0 run in the first 2:28 to start the second half.

3-point shooting carried the Falcons in the second half as UTPB hit 7-11 beyond the arc while holding OPSU to 3-19 shooting on the night from 3-point range.

Johnnie Lacy ended the night with 23 points to lead all scorers in the game for UTPB, hitting 6-10 from the field, 5-8 from three and a 6-6 from the free throw line to go with eight rebounds and four assists. Codye Hatcher scored 22 on 9-15 shooting with eight rebounds, while Gary Akbar recorded his third straight double-double, scoring 14 points with 10 rebounds. Sam Stirgus added 13 points and Vandivort ended the night scoring 10.

Antonio Manns Jr. led the Aggie offense with 22 on the night.

The Falcons close out their home schedule Saturday afternoon, taking on Lubbock Christian at 3 p.m.
