#9 Cal Poly Pomona Takes Pair from UTPB Baseball

UT-Permian Basin faced a top-25 team for the third straight day on its four day California road trip, falling 4-2 & 4-0 against #9 Cal Poly Pomona Saturday afternoon at Scolinos Field in Pomona, Calif.

The Falcons tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth when Doug Clapperton hit an infield base hit to short with two runners on base, scoring Latrell Harris.

Cal Poly Pomona came back with a two-run double by Caleb Romo to go back ahead with a 3-1 advantage.

UTPB grabbed one back in the sixth as Alfred Iturralde hit a sacrifice fly into right to drive in Jordan Zazulak.

Pomona grabbed an insurance run in the seventh on a sac fly to go back ahead by a pair.

Missed opportunities plagued the Falcons in the opener as the first two batters reached base in the game and were left stranded, and UTPB left the bases loaded to end the top of the fifth.

The Broncos shut out the Falcons in game two, limiting them to just three hits and a walk while Pomona starter Michael Koval struck out nine in 5.2 innnings.

UTPB faces one more opponent in California before returning to the Lone Star State, taking on Cal State San Bernardino Sunday afternoon at 11 a.m. local time.
