UT Permian Basin men's basketball went down for the first in in Lone Star Conference action this season, snapping a 3-game win streak Tuesday night with an 89-80 loss on the road at #22 West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas.
UTPB led seven different times in the first half, going on top by five as part of a 10-0 run. A layup by
Johnnie Lacy and 3-pointer from
Vinnie Abbondola tied the contest at 24-24, and a three by Lacy and basket from
Zeldric King put the Falcons in the lead 29-24 after scoring on four straight possessions with 7:27 to play.
West Texas A&M went on a 16-1 run to lead by 10 at 40-30 and led at halftime 48-39.
UTPB got within five points seven different times in the second half, the last two on a layup by
Josh Morris and a pair of free throws by
James McPherson with 3:34 remaining, but the Buffaloes scored the next five points to retake a 10-point advantage.
Lacy led the Falcons as one of three players in double digits with 18 points, hitting 4-10 from 3-point range. Morris had 15 points on 7-8 shooting from the field with seven rebounds.
Sammy Allen added team highs with 11 rebounds and six assists.
UTPB is back home this weekend, hosting Dallas Baptist in its last game in 2016 at 3 p.m.
