UT Permian Basin erased a 39-34 South Dakota Mines lead after three quarters and out-scored the Hardrockers 23-11 in the fourth quarter to come back and score a 50-37 victory Saturday afternoon in Portales, N.M.
Trailing by nine points two minutes into the fourth,
Briana Caro score five straight points on consecutive possessions to whittle the lead down to just four.
A 3-pointer by
Sierra LaGrande at 6:58 pulled UTPB within 47-44, and she connected from deep a possession later to tie the game at 47-47.
UTPB held South Dakota Mines without a field goal over the last 5:39 of the game and scored 10 straight over that span, limiting the Hardrockers to just a single free throw with 20 seconds left.
Caro led the Falcons with 14 points on 6-17 shooting.
Jackie Perez added 10 points off the bench with a 7-8 day at the free throw line.
The Falcons are back in action on the road Tuesday night, traveling to Laredo, Texas, for a 5 p.m. non-conference contest at Texas A&M - International.
