Football Ends Inaugural Season Saturday Night at Angelo State

UT Permian Basin's inaugural football season wrapped up Saturday night as the Falcons fell 70-21 against Angelo State at LeGrand Stadium in San Angelo, Texas.

Trailing 7-0 after the first possession of the game, the Falcons fought back to tie the game after just 1:20 of having possession. UTPB drove down the field with back-to-back big plays when Kameron Mathis connected with Terrell Davidson for a 34 yard catch followed by a 30 yard run down to the ASU three yard line by Jordan Williams. Marquise Simmons punched the ball in on the next play for the 7-7 tie.

Mathis threw for his first score of the game to open the second half. He drove the team down into Angelo State territory with a 37 yard pass to Kristian Brown to the ASU 16, and found Ben Galaviz in the end zone from 16 yards out on the next play.

Mathis added another score on the team's last possession, throwing a 33 yard TD to Mitchell Leonard  with 5:47 remaining.

Leonard caught nine passes for a season-high 215 yards on the night and scored his seventh touchdown of the season. He ended the year with touchdowns in each of his last four games.

Mathis threw for a season-high 403 yards on completing 22 passes in the game and threw multiple touchdowns for the fifth time this year.

Simmons led UTPB with 51 yards on a team-high 13 carries.

Chris Hoad led the defense with 12 total tackles on the night. Jared Thames and Keegan Gray each had a sack, and Alonzo Turner returned an interception for 20 yards.
