Francis Carries Falcons to 2-0 Start with 97-93 Win over Adams State

UT Permian Basin junior forward Daeshon Francis was nearly perfect Saturday afternoon in leading UT Permian Basin with 27 points in a 97-93 win over Adams State in Stevenville, Texas, that helped the Falcons remain undefeated at 2-0 to start the young season.

Francis was a perfect 8-8 from the field in the first 20 minutes, hitting a pair of threes and going 3-4 from the line to score 21 points in the first half.

Tied 49-49 at halftime, UTPB came out to take a four point lead behind a pair of Zeldric King layups, and later led by six on a fastbreak layup by Francis.

Adams State led once in the second half, but the Grizzlies pulled close a couple of different times late in the game, including trailing by just two points three times in the final four minutes, including with just seven seconds remaining. Sammy Allen wrapped up the win with a pair of made free throws at the line to solidify the victory.

Allen led the Falcons with eight rebounds and five assists on the night, and the other four starters each ended the game in double digits in points. Johnnie Lacy fought through foul trouble after recording four fouls in the first half to stay in the game and end the night with 17 points, hitting 4-6 from 3-point range. King scored 16 points on 6-7 shooting while James McPherson scored 14 points in the game. Josh Morris added 10 off the bench.

UTPB shot 62.7 percent for the game from the field, including above 62 percent in both halves. UTPB ended the game hitting 50 percent from beyond the arc (10-20).

The Falcons return home for their home opener in three days, hosting University of the Southwest Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
