Overtime Unkind in 97-92 Loss to Dallas Baptist

UTPB men's basketball went to overtime for the second straight game and the result was the same as the Falcons suffered a 97-92 loss at home Saturday afternoon to Dallas Baptist.

UT-Permian Basin trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half when Dallas Baptist held a 32-18 lead as 7:11 remained in the first half, but the Falcons responded to but the lead down to one by scoring the last five points in the first half on a 3-pointer from Billy Dee Williams and a layup by Tramique Sutherland to trail 36-35 at the half.

Anthony Knight gave the Falcons their first lead of the night on a bucket to put UTPB ahad 41-40 early in the second half. 

A Williams lay up at 14:27 put the Falcons on top by a game-hiigh seven point lead at 49-42, but the lead changed hands 10 times over the last 11 minutes.

Dallas Baptist came back and went ahead by seven points with 3:23 to play, but Johnnie Lacy brought the Falcons back to trail 76-75 on a three with 1:50 remaining in regulation.  Lacy hit a pair at the line two possessions later to go ahead 79-78, but TIm Simmons hit a fade away three as the shot clock expired from in front of the DBU bench to put the Patriots ahead 81-79.

On the team's final possession of the second half, Gary Akbar tied the game once again on a layup down the right side of the lane, and a three from Shannon Lilly fell short to send the game to OT tied 81-81.

Overtime belonged to Dallas Baptist as the Patriots scored the first 10 points and kept the Falcons scoreless until 1:22 remained in the five minute session.

Lacy led the Falcons with 16 points on the afternoon to go with eight rebounds, while Codye Hatcher double-doubled with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Sutherland (15) Akbar (14), Knight (12) and Williams (11) all ended the game with double digit points.

Simmons led the Patriots with 24 points and seven rebouns.
