UTPB Women's Basketball rebounded to turn a double digit deficit into a single possession game in the fourth quarter Thursday night against St. Edward's, but the Hilltoppers rallied to outscore the Falcons 17-10 over the final five minutes in a 72-63 loss in Odessa.
After trailing by 11 earlier in the second half, the Falcons pulled within a pair of points as part of a seven point run.
Sierra LaGrande scored five points on back-to-back possessions with a layup and 3-pointer, and Khadija Vigil put back an offensive rebound to pull UT-Permian Basin to trailing 51-49.
UTPB got within a pair of points twice more in the game on fee throws by LaGrande and a basket from Vigil, but the Hilltoppers found their offense and pushed their lead back into double digits in the final minutes of action in the nine point win.
Jau'nae Peevy paced the Falcons with 19 points on the night, hitting 5-12 from the field and 8-11 from the line. LaGrande added 11 points on 4-6 shooting off the bench.
Shakera Barnes took over for the Hilltoppers, hitting 12-20 from the floor and a perfect 9-9 from the line to lead all players with 33 points and six assists.
UTPB is back home to start next week, taking on Oklahoma Christian Monday night at 5:30.
