UT-Permian Basin erased an 11 point lead in the fourth quarter and went ahead for the first time in the fourth quarter in the final minute of regulation, but Oklahoma Christian tied the game with under a second left on the clock and went on to take a 101-94 overtime win Monday night in Odessa.
Starting the quarter with a five-point lead, Oklahoma Christian scored the first six points for the fourth to take a 77-66 lead with 7:23 remaining.
Trailing by seven points with 2:25 to play,
Niniva Taito hit a layup and completed the three-point play at the free throw line to pull the Falcons withing four at 86-82.
On the team's next possession, she went to the line and hit a pair to trail by to points with 1:30 left on the clock.
After an Eagles miss,
Shanna Taylor put the Falcons in the lead for the first time since 3:37 remained in the third quarter with a 3-pointer for an 87-86 lead with :50 to play.
Sydney Hill had a chance to put the Eagles back in the lead, but missed the front end of a pair at the free throw line. She hit the the second to tie the contest at 87-87, but
Sierra LaGrande hit a midrange jumper the next time down the floor for UTPB for an 89-87 lead.
The two point lead went away when Sarah Parker was fouled underneath the basket after an inbound play from in front of the Oklahoma Christian bench and made both free throws with .2 seconds on the clock to send the game to OT tied 89-89.
UTPB took a one-point lead two different times in the final five minutes of the game, but missed on its final five field goal attempts as OCU closed out the game with the final six points of the night.
LaGrande led all players on the evening with 25 points, hitting five 3-pointers. Taito added 23 points with five rebounds and five assists on an 8-13 game from the field.
Khadijah Vigil led the Falcons with nine rebounds and contributed 16 points.
Parker led the Eagles with 24 points as one of three Oklahoma Christian players with at least 21 points in the game.
UTPB remains home this weekend, hosting St. Mary's Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
