UT-Permian Basin women's basketball earned its first Heartland Conference victory of the season Saturday afternoon when
Victoria Lopez scored the final three points of the game in a 62-59 defeat at Oklahoma Panhandle State in Goodwell, Okla.
The Falcons looked to be in control, holding a 14-point 37-23 lead at halftime, but the Aggies rebounded to outscore UTPB 36-25 in the final two quarters of the day.
UTPB went ahead by 10 midway through the fourth on eight straight points by five different Falcons to lead 58-48.
Panhandle rallied over the next four and a half minutes, scoring 10 of the next 11 points, before Lopez broke a 49-49 tie by making the front end of a pair at the line for the one-point lead.
She hit a basket with five seconds remaining to put the Falcons in the lead by three, and OPSU missed a three with a chance to tie to leave UTPB victorious.
Niniva Taito led the Falcons with 20 points and seven assists. She went 5-9 at the 3-point line as the Falcons hit 9-17 from long range in the second half.
Shanna Taylor and
Khadijah Vigil each added 11 points with Vigil getting a double-double as she led all players on the night with 15 rebounds.
Tatyana Bell led all players on the day with 26 points on 11-14 shooting for the Aggies.
UTPB returns home next weekend, hosting UAFS Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
