Texas-Permian Basin baseball suffered a 5-2 loss in its opening game at the 2015 Heartland Conference Championships, falling 5-2 Thursday afternoon to #10 St. Edward's at Dickson Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.
The Falcons tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third when
Ryan Souza reached on a fielder's choice, scoring
Matt Reyes after he hit a one-out triple into left center.
 St. Edward's grabbed the lead back in the fourth whenh Jonathon Arrowood scored from third on a wild pitch. Gable Whitacre added two more when he doubled down the line into right to drive in Cutter Runte and AJ Hermanson.
Alfred Iturralde took a run back for UTPB on an infield single in the sixth with a base hit to the shortstop to score
Bryan Van Vranken.
The Hilltoppers added back a run in the eighth when Wesley Harris hit a sac fly to plate Joseph Olson.
Cameron Stanton picked up the complete game victory for St. Edward's, throwing nine innings of two-run ball.Â
Daniel Andrade and Iturralde each had two hits on the afternoon for the UTPB offense.
The Falcons now play Friday at noon in the weekend's first elimination game, taking on the loser of UA Fort Smith and St. Mary's.
