Big Start Helps Falcons to Sweep with 9-5 Win at OPSU

UTPB Baseball won its fourth conference series sweep of 2015 Saturday afternoon with a 9-5 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State at Aggie Field in Goodwell, Okla.

The win, improving the Falcons to 28-12 overall and 17-7 in the Heartland Conference, was head coach Brian Reinke's 300th of his career.

The Falcons pounded out 15 hits on the day, paced by a 3-4 day with two RBI and two runs scored by David Lee, who raised his team-leading batting average to .475 on the season. Daniel Andrade added three more hits with two runs driven in after five at bats.

2596UTPB took a 2-0 lead after the top of the first when Lee drove home Matt Reyes on a single into left field. An error later in the inning brough home Lee.

The Falcons doubled up on the Aggies with two more in the second as Ty Morgan scored on a ground out and Lee doubled to left to score Reyes for the second time on the day.

Andrade did damage with two on in the fourth, hitting a single to center with Reyes and Lee on base to score both, and he later came in on an inside-the-park home run by Itturalde.

Ryan Souza scored on an error in the bottom of the six, putting the Falcons on top 9-0 until the Aggies got five runs back in the final two innings.

Chris Cano picked up the win for UTPB, hurling six scoreless innings with three hits, three walks and three strikeouts.

The Falcons close out regular season play next week at home, hosting Lubbock Christian for three games. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is set for 1:30 p.m.
