UTPB baseball was unable to complete the weekend sweep Saturday afternoon as #8 St. Mary's ended the three-game set with an 8-3 defeat of the Falcons at Roden Field in Odessa.
The Falcons evened the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth when
Daniel Andrade singled to right field to bring in
Bryan Van Vranken and
Kevin Barnes.
St. Mary's came right back with three runs of its own in the top of the fifth off of a pair of hits to go back ahead 5-2.
The Falcons grabbed one back in the 7th when Barnes hit the ball off the plate to behind the mound for an infield single to score
Matt Reyes, but UTPB left five runners stranded in the 7th and 8th innings to trail 5-3.
The Rattlers put the game away with three more runs in the top of the ninth in wrapping up the five-run win.
Cody Butler picked up the win for the Rattlers, allowing an earned run in six innings. Oscar Sepulveda entered in the seventh to pick up the three inning save.
Chris Cano took the loss for UTPB, allowing five runs off of nine hits and two walks in five innings of action.
The Falcons are on the road next weekend, traveling to Oklahoma City for a three-game series at Oklahoma Christian.
