UTPB baseball scored the final four runs of the afternoon and took its first lead of the day when
Travis Sims scored on a two-out base hit for a 5-4 victory over Sul Ross State at Kokernot Field in Alpine, Texas.
The Falcons fell behind 3-0 when Sul Ross took advantage of a pair of UTPB errors in the bottom of the third and got three hits of its own to grab the lead.
Texas-Permian Basin scored its first of the day in the next half inning, getting a run when
David Lee grounded out to shortstop to score
Ryan Souza from third.
Sul Ross got the run back on a home run from Shane Sawyer in the seventh but the Falcons came back strong in the eighth. UTPB took advantage of a pair of throwing errors by the Lobos as
Kevin Barnes scored on a wild pitch and
Matt Reyes and Sims later scored on a throwing error by the shortstop on a fielders choice to tie the game at 4-4.
Sims later scored the game winning run in the top of the 10th, getting a one-out single into right and scoring on another outfield single by Souza with a pair of outs in the inning.
Nolan Schattel earned the win for UTPB, entering in the bottom of the ninth and striking out the side. He rung up three more batters in the 10th, giving up one walk.
Souza and Barnes each had a pair of hits for the Falcons while Sims scored twice.
UTPB is back in action Friday night, hosting Cameron at Christensen Stadium in Midland. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
