Baseball Picks Up Three Wins Sunday Against University of the Southwest

UTPB baseball improved to 7-2 on the season Sunday afternoon, collecting a trio of 12-5 (completion of suspended game), 13-1 and 4-1 victories over University of the Southwest at Roden Field in Odessa.

Colin Kowal ended the first game of the day with a 4-4 day at the plate, scoring three times. Matt Reyes finished 3-3 at the top of the order with three more runs and Brian Van Vranken drove in three as the Falcons had seven players with multiple hits and 18 collective hits as a team.

UTPB came out strong in game two of the day, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first. The Falcons gor RBIs from Brian Van Vranken, Jose SIerra, Alfred Itturalde and Kowal in a seven hit inning.

Randal Toribio doubled to right and Kowal hit a two-run single in the bottom of the second as the Falcons added three more runs to its total to lead 11-0.

The Falcons added a pair in the bottom of the fifth on a fielder's choice from Ty Morgan and scored their last run when Kevin Barnes came home on a balk.

Brad Paramapoonya improved to 2-0 on the season, throwing six innings with five strikeouts while allowing four hits and a pair of walks with no runs.

Chris Cano kept the hot pitching going in the final game of the day, striking out 10 batters in a one-run complete game effort. He allowed five hits and a walk with an earned run in the seven inning outing.

UTPB struck first again in the bottom of the first, scoring twice on a Jack Miller single into right center to score a pair.

David Lee drove in the team's third run in the third with a single up the middle.

Daniel Andrade added a fourth run on an RBI triple to right field to bring home Lee.

The Falcons are back in action right away tomorrow, traveling to Alpine, Texas, for a 3 p.m. game at Sul Ross.
