UTPB men's basketball's offense was held in check for the first time all season as the Falcons were held to a season-low night of scoring in a 74-58 road defeat at #8 Tarleton State Monday night in Stephenville, Texas.
The Falcons went cold on offense in the middle of the first half as the Texans defense held UTPB scoreless for a nearly seven minute stretch, making just 1-of-13 shots as Tarleton State ran out to a 20-9 advantage.
Codye Hatcher scored twice as part of a 6-0 run that pulled the Falcons within five with 3:37 remaining in the half, and he scored the final two points of the first at the line as UTPB trailed 31-24 at halftime.
The Falcons never got collected on offense in the second half as Tarleton State pushed the lead back to double digits in the first few minutes and led by as many as 29 points before the Falcons closed out the game on a 20-7 run over the final seven minutes.
Johnnie Lacy paced the Falcons with 24 points on the night, hitting 4-of-8 from 3-point range and connecting on 8-of-13 from the game from the field. Hatcher added 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
The Falcons return home this weekend, taking on Newman in their Heartland Conference opener Saturday at 3 p.m.
