Volleyball Goes Distance to Defeat Dallas Baptist 3-2

UTPB Volleyball needed the full five sets Thursday night, rebounding after jumping out to a fast 2-0 lead to pull out the fifth and final set in a 25-16, 25-19, 17-25, 17-25, 15-10 victory over Dallas Baptist in Odessa.

The Falcons found their momentum again after dropping two straight sets, scoring eight of the first 10 points in the fifth set and four points in a row, the final three on kills by Hannah Rebb, to go on top of DBU 8-2. The hot start put UTPB in the drivers seat and gave the Falcons room when playing for match point as the Patriots scored four in a row to pull within 14-10. Karlee Troeh won the match for UTPB with her third kill of the fifth set for the 15-10 match winner.

Caitlyn Guajardo and Troeh were the focal point of the UTPB attack all night, as Guajardo led the Falcons with 18 kills and Troeh added 15 winners while hitting a team-leading .382 to go with 12 digs on the day. UTPB hit .311 on the night, its best of 2015, with 63 kills and just 17 errors.

Annelise Sanchez led all players with eight blocks on the night while Ariana Gallardo had a match-high 31 assists.

The Falcons close out their home schedule Saturday, hosting St. Edward's at noon and University of the Southwest at 4 p.m.
