UT-Permian Basin men's basketball out-scored Paul Quin 61-38 in the second half, turning a three-point halftime lead into a 26-point, 104-78 victory Saturday night in their second of two neutral site games in Laredo, Texas.
The Falcons turned the offense on in the second half, reversing a 37 percent shooting first half into hitting 23-of-42 from the field (54 percent).
Leading just 43-40 at halftime and by a single point after Paul Quinn made a basket to open up the half, the Falcons streaked out to a 10-point lead, going ahead 52-42 on a layup by
Gary Akbar.
UTPB never led by fewer than double digits in the remaining 17 minutes of action as three players scored at least 10 points in the second half, led by Akbar's 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
Akbar and
Billy Dee Williams each paced the Falcons on the night with 22 points to go with seven rebounds apiece.
Codye Hatcher had a double-double, grabbing a team-high 10 boards with 17 points.
Mario Fleurima added 17 points while
Johnnie Lacy had 13 points and a team-high six assists.Â
The Falcons are on the road next week, traveling to Alpine, Texas, for a Friday night holiday game at Sul Ross.
