UTPB women's basketball blew past Arlington Baptist Wednesday afternoon, kicking off its 2015-16 home schedule with a 105-78 win in Odessa.
Free throws made a huge difference on the afternoon as UT-Permian Basin converted on 19-21 attempts at the line while the Patriots shot just 47 percent, hitting 21 of 44 attempts at the stripe.
Niniva Taito led the UTPB offense again, hitting 6-of-10 from 3-point range and 7-of-11 overall to lead the Falcons with 24 points.
Shanna Taylor added 23 points with six boards as one of five UTPB players to score double digits.
Elisa Gonzalez scored 11 points with seven rebounds while
Khadijah Vigil and
Allison Gordon each had 10 points.
Jau'nae Peevy fell one point short of a double-double, leading the Falcons with 10 rebounds to go with nine points.
UT-Permian Basin nearly doubled up Arlington Baptist on points off turnovers, getting 29 points from steals to giving up 15.
The Falcons are back on the road this weekend, traveling to Lubbock for neutral site games against Fort Lewis and Eastern New Mexico.
