Box Score 2 UT-Permian Basin Women's Basketball led two different times and kept Friday afternoon's game within four points throughout the entire first half, but Fort Lewis used a big third quarter on its way to a 69-54 defeat of UTPB in Lubbock, Texas.
The Falcons took an 18-17 lead in the second quarter when
Khadijah Vigil hit a layup and the following free throw for the team's second lead of the game. UTPB later tied the contest at 24-24 on a layup from
Niniva Taito, but Fort Lewis scored the final four points of the half, including a second chance layup right at the end of the second quarter to lead 28-24.
Despite going on top by eight points in the first minute of the third quarter, the Falcons rallied with a pair of 3-pointers from Taito and
Shanna Taylor to cut the Skyhawk lead to 34-32.
Fort Lewis then began to pull away, scoring the next 11 points while holding UTPB scoreless for over eight minutes until
Allison Gordon hit a three with 57 seconds left in the third to trail 45-35.
Taito paced the Falcons with 11 points on the afternoon while
Jau'nae Peevy led UTPB with six rebounds.
UTPB is back in action in Lubbock Saturday night, taking on Eastern New Mexico at 5 p.m.
