Box Score UTPB volleyball closed out its four day, four game road trip this weekend with a come-from-behind, 3-1 win over Midwestern State Sunday afternoon in Wichita Falls, Texas.
The Falcons took each of the last three sets after falling behind with a loss in the first set. They recovered from a slow start in the second that found them trailing Midwestern State 5-1 to come back with five of the next six points, led by a pair of kills from
Hannah Rebb, to tie the set at 6-6. A four-point run with two kills from
Caitlyn Guajardo, a kill from
Morgann Davis and block by Guajardo and
Rachel Dixon put UTPB on top 12-9. The Falcons never lost control of their lead and responded when the Mustangs cut the advantage to one with four straight points to go ahead 20-15. The Falcons then closed out the set with the last five points, ending on an ace by
Hannah Rebb for a 25-17 win.
UTPB fell behind in the third set, but took a 12-5 advantage behind five straight points followed after a MIdwestern State point by six more for the Falcons for a 12-5 lead. The early lead held up over the rest of the set as the Falcons led by as many as 11 points three different times in the 25-16 second set win.
The two teams played a tighter fourth set with neither team able to separate by more than two points through a large majority of the set. The Falcons were able to claim a 21-17 lead from trailing by a point with a five point run featuring a pair of kills from Rebb. Midwestern State would get within a point two more times, but the Falcons finished off the match with a kill from
Morgann Davis for a 25-23 fourth set win.
Davis led all players with a .440 hitting percentage and tied for the match high of 14 kills with teammate
Ryley Carman. Rebb added 13 and Guajardo 12 as the other Falcons with double-digit kills.
Ariana Gallardo had a season high 54 assists in the match and
Taylor Harmon was one of three Falcons with double-digit digs with 17.
UTPB is back on the road next week, traveling to Hobbs, N.M., for a non-conference match against University of the Southwest Tuesday night.
