Box Score UTPB volleyball broke a recent run of two straight wins Tuesday night in suffering a 22-25, 25-22, 15-25, 16-25 loss against Angelo State in non-conference action at the Falcon Dome.
The Falcons stuck with the visiting Belles in the opening set despite falling behind 11-17. UTPB rallied with four straight points twice in a nine-point window to come from behind and take a 19-18 lead in the first. Angelo State was able to close out the first with two straight kills for a three-point win.
UTPB came out on fire to start the second, racing ahead to a 10-2 lead after taking the first five points of the set. A thunderous Angelo State rally pulled the Belles within a point at 11-10, but the Falcons kept the lead and later pushed it back out to 17-12. ASU was able to get within a point four different times towards the end of the match, including at 23-22, but the Falcons won the last two points of the set and took a 25-22 win on a
Hannah Rebb kill.
Angelo State started the third off strong with a five point rally of its own to start off the set, a lead that UTPB was never able to cut down over the course of the set. The Belles pulled away with nine out of 10 points to go on top 17-7 before winning the third 25-15.
The fourth set went Angelo State's way much like the third, starting with a 5-1 ASU advantage. The Falcons were able to close within four points a few different times in the set, but were never able to mount a rally to get close as Angelo State took the contest with a 25-16 fourth set.
Ryley Carman led all players in the match with 19 kills on 38 attempts and one error for a .474 percentage on the day. Abbie Lynn, Daeleigh Castile and Cerbi Ritchey each collected 12 kills to lead an Angelo State attack that hit .307 on the night.
Alexa Johnson tallied 48 assists for the Belles and
Taylor Harmon led all players with 17 digs on the night for UTPB.
The Falcons head out of town this weekend, embarking on a four games in four days road trip starting Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Dallas Baptist.
