3/1/2014 9:23:00 PM

UTPB Men's Basketball led by as many as 16 points in the second half and held an 11-point advantage with just over five minutes to play, but McMurry rallied to tie the game in regulation and went on to grab a one point overtime win to knock off the Falcons 95-94 in the final game of the regular season for both teams.

McMurry scored nine straight points late in the second half, cutting a 10 point UTPB lead down to a single point with 1:49 to play in the second half.

The War Hawks took the lead for the first time since 17:09 in the first half on a 3-pointer by Hondo Webb to go on top 87-86 with 33 seconds remaining in regulation.

Phadarius Taylor put UTPB back on top with a layup and free throw with 18 seconds to play, but Kourtney Goff scored in the paint before the final buzzer to tie the game at 89-89 and send the contest to overtime.

McMurry led in the early minutes of the OT session, scoring the first points on a basket by Thiago Randazzo, but Taylor once again hit a layup to put the Falcons in the lead 94-93 with 1:33 to play.

Randazzo hit the final shot of the night with 1:07 remaining to put the War Hawks back on top 95-94, and each team missed their final two shot attempts before the clock expired with McMurry earning the one point win.

All six UTPB players to score on the day ended the game in double figures, led by Thomas Feeney with 21 points and a team-high seven assists. Seniors Dwayne Soders (18 points), Anthony Dees (14 points) and Keith Martin (12 points and a game-best 16 rebounds) each hit double digits in their final home games at UTPB, and Taylor also hit 14 points on the day.

Connor Robinson led all players with 24 points for McMurry.

Locked in to fourth place in the upcoming Heartland Conference Championships when the day began, UTPB will travel to Arkansas-Fort Smith next week for an opening semi-final game against UAFS. The Lions earned sole possession of first place with a win over Rogers State Thursday night and won the right to host the conference tournament when Texas A&M International missed a chance at tying for first in the league and the right to host next weekend by falling in double overtime Saturday afternoon to its opponent next week and third seeded St. Mary's.
