1/23/2014 10:41:00 PM

UTPB men's basketball improved to 12-4 on the season and 6-2 in the Heartland Conference with its fourth straight victory in a 90-80 win Thursday night at Oklahoma Panhandle State in Goodwell, Okla.

Madison Turner has been hot as of late for the Falcons and Thursday night was no exception; the junior guard finished the night shooting 8-of-9 and 5-of-6 from three point range for a 26 points. He has now scored at least 23 points in three of the team's last four games and is shooting an incredible 70 percent (24-of-34) from behind the arc over that span.

The Falcons looked to get going on offense with a pair of threes, breaking a tie game with back-to-back 3-pointers to go on top 10-4 three minutes into the game.

UTPB eventually led by seven, but an 8-0 run by OPSU capped by a 3-pointer from Kysahn Sands gave the Aggies their first lead of the night at 16-15 with 13:08 remaining in the first.

The Falcons re-grouped to score the next seven, getting a basket from Dwayne Soders, a pair of free throws by Anthony Dees and a three from Andre Rieder to put UTPB back ahead by six.

Oklahoma Panhandle State came back to hold a two point lead two different times, but the Falcons got back in control and led by as many as nine points before ending the half with a 48-41 lead.

The Falcons maintained a healthy lead in the second half, going up by as many as 16 points as Dees and Turner hit 3-pointers on consecutive trips down the court to go on top 75-59.

OPSU tried to make a comeback in the final minutes but ran out of time. Trailing by 13 with 3:35 left in the game, the Aggies scored seven straight points to trail 86-80 but only had 38 seconds remaining in the game. Dees wrapped up the game at the line, hitting four straight free throws before getting a steal with 21 seconds left to end the 10-point win.

Dees led all players Thursday night with a season-high 28 points and finished a perfect 17-of-17 from the free throw line. Soders added 13 points and Keith Martin chipped in 11 on 5-of-7 shooting as all by three of their 90 points came from their starting lineup.

Jeremy Newton led OPSU with 23 points and Zilijan Jones added 19 on the evening.

The Falcons are back on the court Saturday afternoon, taking on Newman in Wichita, Kan, at 3 p.m.
