The University of Texas of the Permian Basin women's soccer team went into halftime with a 1-0 lead, but a quick pair of goals after the half led to Western State Colorado taking a 4-1 win in the season opener for both teams.
Brooke Saxton got the breakthrough in the first half for UTPB in the minutes just before halftime, heading in a cross off a corner from
Sal Gebre 42:01 into the first half that gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Emily Burton changed the game around after halftime for Western State, scoring a minute and a half into the second half on a penalty kick that came after a handball by UTPB in the box. She put the Mountaineers ahead over two minutes later on a goal from the top of the box at 48:57. They added two more goals in the next 20 minutes to put the match away.
