SAN ANGELO – Angelo State used a second half outburst to open up a double-digit lead over The University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's basketball team and eventually rode it to a 72-60 non-conference victory over the Falcons.

The Rams opened the second period with an 18-8 run to turn a five-point advantage to a 46-31 lead with 12:49 to go.  They would lead by at least 10 points the rest of the way to avenge a 57-53 setback to the Falcons earlier this month in Odessa.

Despite a career-high 23-point effort from Erik Martin, the Falcons couldn't overcome their shooting woes as they made just eight field goals in the first half and finished the game by shooting 36.5 percent from the field.  UTPB was never able to find its range from outside, hitting just one of 19 three-point field goals and connected on just 13-of-21 free throws.

The Rams never trailed in the contest as they improved to 9-11 overall while UTPB fell to 7-12 on the season.  The Falcons did tie the game on two different occasions, both coming in the first half.

Branden Harrison was the only other player to finish in double-figures with 10 points and outside Jalen Jarrett and Madison Turner, nobody else scored more than five points.

The Falcons will be back in action on Saturday when they head to Austin to take on St. Edward's at noon in a Heartland Conference matchup.
