Newman scored 48 points in the paint and shot 55.6 percent from the field, propelling it to a 78-62 win over the University of Texas of the Permian Basin women's basketball team.  The loss dropped the Falcons to 11-6 overall and 2-2 in Heartland Conference play. 
 
The Jets, who are receiving votes in the NCAA Division II national poll, had four players finish in double-figures with Satoria Bell leading the way with a team-high 26 points.  Bell was 11-of-16 from the field with five rebounds, while Tasha Cannon and Kianna Flannagan had 14 and 12 respectively.  Celeste Key was nearly perfect from the field, hitting four of the five shots she took.
 
Newman led start to finish and held a double-digit advantage from the 13:06 point of the first half until the final buzzer, including a 23-point lead. 
 
UTPB on the other hand, never found its shooting touch, making 8-of-29 three pointers for 27.6 percent and 23-of-67 overall for 34.3 percent.  Teisha King led the way for the Falcons with 13 points, eight rounds and six assists, while Lauren Unger had 12. 
 
The Falcons will try to get back on track this weekend when they host Panhandle State at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Falcon Dome.
