SAN ANGELO – The University of Texas of the Permian Basin volleyball team continued to play steady and consistently as it took a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-23) win over Southeastern Oklahoma in the second match of the Angelo State Invitational.
The sweep over the Savage Storm marked the Falcons' second-straight 3-0 victory and their fourth win in as many matches. UTPB collected 41 kills with just 16 errors for a .231 hitting percentage while picking up 60 digs defensively.
In the first set the two teams exchanged points until the Falcons broke a 10-10 by going on a 7-1 run after a kill by
Jamie Rodell made it 17-11. She collected a team-high four kills in the set, while
Keeley Brogdon,
Heather Sanchez and
Melissa Lusk each had three.
The second set started much like the first as UTPB led 9-8 after a kill by Sanchez. An 11-3 run gave the Falcons a 20-11 lead and never looked back for the victory. UTPB held the Savage Storm to a -.029 hitting percentage, forcing seven hitting errors.
The Falcons jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the third set, but a 7-0 run by Southeastern tied the set at 11 when Chelsea White picked up one of her two kills in the match. The teams would exchange points the rest of the way with neither team taking more than a one point advantage. The Falcons finally broke the trend when back-to-back kills broke a 23-23 tie and clinched the match.
UTPB improved to 4-3 on the year and will take on Angelo State and Abilene Christian tomorrow.
