Hannah Dozier scored the first goal of the season for the Falcons and it proved to be enough as The University of Texas of the Permian Basin took a 1-0 win over Eastern New Mexico to improve to 1-1 on the year.
Dozier's goal came at the 4:28 mark after Kourtnye Chandlers's through pass gave Dozier a one-on-one with goal keeper Kellie Hogan. Her shot found the back right side of the net for the early lead.
UTPB controlled the tempo for most of the first half despite six first half shots to the Falcon's four. The Zias eventually out-shot UTPB 12-8 and had six shots on goal to the Falcons' three.
The tandem of
Victoria Ramirez and
Alexis Frueh combined for UTPB's first shoutout since Sept. 5 of last season as both picked up three saves each.
The Falcons will hit the road to take on Angelo State on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
