Austin James scored a pair of unassisted goals in the final four minutes of play as The University of Texas of the Permian Basin took a 2-0 Heartland Conference victory over St. Mary's.
Pate's goal came at the 85:58 mark when a rebounded shot came his way which he kicked into the lower left corner of the net that proved to be the game-winner. With 44 seconds left in regulation,
Austin James put in his first goal of the season when he took a deflected pass and rifled in a shot from 30 yards out which got past Rattler goal keeper Patrick Kasperitis to pad the lead.
St. Mary's out-shot UTPB 21-15 and had six shots on goal to the Falcons' four. UTPB goal keeper
Craig Branum picked up six saves in his third victory of the season.
The Shutout over the Rattlers marks the second time this season the Falcons and Branum have held their opponents scoreless. UTPB is now 3-5 on the year and 1-1 in Heartland Conference play.
The Falcons will step out of conference play when they hit the road to take on Houston-Victoria on Sunday at 12 p.m. They will not play on their home field until Oct. 14 when Newman comes to Odessa.
