The University of Texas of the Permian Basin used a squeeze bunt in the final game of the 2011 Black and Orange Tournament to break a 3-3 tie to defeat Eastern New Mexico 4-3. Earlier in the day, the Falcons fell to East Central Oklahoma 5-4 in eight innings.

The Falcons thought they were not going to have to use their last at-bat in the bottom of the seventh leading 3-2 with two outs in the top of the frame. Eastern New Mexico got a sacrifice fly from Tessa Fioritti, plating Emily Livingston from third to tie the game at three.

Cene Padilla hit a one-out double down the left line in the bottom of the seventh before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Tieifa Dueberry laid down a bunt toward the pitcher while Padilla raced home, but the throw to the plate was too late as Padilla gave the Falcons the game-winning run.

The Zias opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning off two hits before UTPB cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the third. A double by Angel Castro drove in Kristy Leal, who opened the frame by reaching on an error.

The Falcons would strike again in the fourth to tie the game at two after Courtney Cernoch scored on a sacrifice bunt by Whitney Kuhrt. The sacrifice bunt seemed to be the theme of the game for the Falcons as they used it once again in the fifth, this time off the bat of Dueberry which enabled Alisha Carrasco to score from third.

Tomie Ellard pitched the final four innings for the Falcons and allowed one run but did not allow a hit as she picked up her first win of the season. Cernoch started the game in the circle, giving up two runs off two hits while striking out three.

In the first game of the day for the Falcons, solo homers by Cernoch and Leal weren't enough as East Central scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to escape with a 5-4 win.

Both teams scored single runs in the third inning before UTPB took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth with Cernoch's homer to left.

Like the Eastern New Mexico game, the Falcons were one-out away from winning the game, but a triple by Shelby Simmons drove in Nicole Sanchez, who reached on an infield single.

The eighth inning saw the Falcons score two runs off one hit while taking advantage of an East Central error. Trailing 4-2 in their final at-bat, the Tigers got a double from Emily Kennemer to drive in Catie Tolliver, who was placed on second because of the international tie-break rule. Kennemer would later advance to third on a passed ball before a single by Cami Correa drove her in. Brittany Baron singled up the middle which proved to be the game winner, plating Samanth Durazo.

At the end of the day, the Falcons moved to 7-12 on the year and will remain at home when they host the University of the Southwest on Tuesday.
