After scoring a school-record 70 first-half points, the University of Texas of the Permian Basin women's basketball team could have put it in cruise control, but it still managed to score 46 points in the second half in route to a 116-75 win over Panhandle State.

The Falcons were red-hot from the field, hitting a season-high 57.7 percent from the field, including 72.5 percent in the first half. The Falcons dominated nearly every aspect of the game, using their up-tempo style of play to force 27 turnovers that resulted in 45 points. In transition, UTPB used its speed to score 36 points and put in 29 second chance points.

Seven different players scored in double-figures with Miesha Blackshear leading the way with a game-high 23 points to go along with five rebounds and seven steals. Seventeen of Blackshear's points came in the first half as she hit 8-of-9 shots from the field and picked up five steals. Lauren Unger found her stroke from the outside early, hitting all four three-pointers in the first for 16 points. As a team, UTPB knocked down nine three-pointers and out-rebounded the Aggies 48-35.

Leading 11-4 after a layup by Teisha King, who finished with 13 points, the Falcons went on a 13-5 run to go up 24-9 with 14:32 to go in the half. They would hold a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

UTPB would stretch its lead to 26 (61-35) after a 22-9 run late in the first and would eventually go into the locker room with a 70-41 advantage.

It was more of the same in the second half as the Falcons out-scored the Aggies 46-34 to improve to 18-6 overall and still hold the top-spot in the Heartland Conference standings.

UTPB will play a key matchup against Newman Saturday afternoon in the Falcon Dome at 2 p.m. The Jets currently sit in second place and one-half game back of the Falcons.
