FALCONS DROP SECOND-STRAIGHT, FALL TO HENDERSON STATE

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – For the second-straight game, The University of Texas of the Permian Basin had trouble holding on to the ball as the Falcons committed 19 turnovers which led to an 80-59 setback to Henderson State. 
 
The Falcons, who normally get quality minutes from their bench players, got just five points from the non-starters, while the Reddies got 39 points from their reserves including a combined 29 from Joycelyn Taylor and Krystal Beachum. 
 
Taniqua Ards put in the first bucket of the game 58 seconds in for one of the few times the Falcons would lead.  She would finish with 10 points and was one of three players in double-figures.  Ards did tie the game at 11 with 14:08 to play in the first, but a 9-0 run over the next four minutes gave the Reddies a 20-11 advantage. 
 
Henderson State led by as many as 12 in the first, but the Falcons were able to close the gap to 38-30 at the break. 
 
UTPB came out firing in the second half as it used an 11-2 run in the first three-and-a-half minutes to lead 41-40 after Jessi Cowden converted a layup.  The teams would exchange buckets over the next few minutes, but the Falcons scored just nine points over the last 10 minutes of the game.  The Reddies took full advantage as it out-scored UTPB 30-9 down the stretch. 
 
Teisha King led the way for UTPB with 18 points, while Cowden had 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds.  The Falcons fell to 6-4 on the year and will return home Dec. 14 to host the University of the Southwest at 7 p.m.
