box score

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's basketball team shot a season-best 59 percent from the field, but Wayland Baptist did one better as it hit 66.7 percent of its shots, taking a 92-86 victory.

The Pioneers got a combined 52 points from Isaiah Jackson and George Williams and the two combined to hit 21-of-28 from the field.  Jackson finished with a game-best 29 points, while Williams put in 23.  Wayland Baptist used just three substitutes the entire game, but it didn't matter as seven of the eight that played recorded more than 20 minutes of action.

Five different players put in at least 10 points for the Falcons with Elijah Jordan leading the way with 17.  Ke'Andre Derrick had 13 while Klein Harper put in a career-high 11.  Erik Martin and Madison Turner had 10 each for UTPB.

UTPB led by as many as seven (9-2) early in the first half after Martin hit a three-pointer with 16:22 to play in the first.  The Falcons would hold the lead until Jackson made a layup giving the Pioneers a 12-11 lead with 12:45 to go before the break.  Wayland Baptist would not lose the lead again.

Jordan knocked down an 18-foot jumper to tie the game at 31 with 5:27 left in the half.  The momentum wouldn't last as Wayland Baptist closed out the period with a 12-5 run as it led 43-36 at halftime.

The Falcons would come within four (51-47) with 15:18 to play, but a 16-5 run by the Pioneers gave them a 69-54 lead, their largest of the game.  They would keep a double-digit lead until Jordan converted a layup and made the free throw after he was fouled with 2:20 to go.  Jordan's bucket made it 85-76 with 2:27 to go.  UTPB would pull within four with under a minute to play, but could not complete the comeback.

UTPB fell to 2-5 on the year and will head to Laredo on Dec. 2 when it competes in the Texas A&M International Classic.  There, the Falcons will take one Arlington Bible and Freewill Baptist.
