GOODWELL, Okla. – The University of Texas of the Permian Basin volleyball head coach Steve Aicinena recorded his 300th career victory at the helm of the Falcon volleyball team with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-12) sweep over Panhandle State.  Aicinena is not only UTPB's only coach in school history; he started the program in 1995.

The Falcons struggled early in the first set as Panhandle State matched the Falcons point for point and eventually took a 23-21 lead.  A service error by Breanna Drayer made it 23-22 and opened the door for the Falcons as they used the miscue to score four-straight points for the opening set win.

The second and third sets were a stark contrast to the first as UTPB dominated the Aggies, taking less than 30 minutes to win both contests.

In the second, the Falcons broke a 5-5 tie with a 10-3 run, including eight-straight points, giving them a commanding 15-8 advantage.  UTPB would go on to out-score the Aggies 10-5 the rest of the way to lead 2 sets to none.

In the final set, UTPB collected 11 kills and committed just one error as the Falcons clinched the match, allowing Aicinena to reach the 300-win barrier.

The Falcons hit .304 as a team with Melissa Lusk picking up a team-high seven kills, while Alex Genung, Keeley Brogdon and Jamie Rodell adding six.  Rodell was impressive on both sides of the net as she committed just one error and picked up a match-high eight block assists.

In the second match of the day, Southwest Baptist had four players pick up 10-or-more kills with Britni Reed and Kylie Heim leading the way with 14 each.  The Bearcats took a 25-16, 25-17, 19-25, 25-21 victory as UTPB moved to 16-14 on the year.

The Falcons are currently tied for third in the Heartland Conference standings with two league matches left to play.  UTPB will play a non-conference contest against McMurry on Thursday followed by a 7 p.m. date with Newman a week later.  The top-four teams in the Heartland Conference advance to play in the post-season tournament.
