Kourtnye Chandler scored a pair of goals including the game-winner to lead The University of Texas of the Permian to a 4-3 double overtime victory over Texas A&M International.
Chandler's heroics were her first goals of the season as the Falcons improved to 2-5 in Heartland Conference play. The sophomore from Odessa ended the game at the 111
th minute on a shot from 20 yards out, giving UTPB sudden victory.
The Dustdevils struck first after benefitting from an own goal at the 19:01 mark. They would extend their lead when Alyssa Flores took a through pass from Jessica Salas, finding the lower left corner of the goal.
UTPB finally got on the board when
Nicole Leffingwell scored her first goal of the season at the 49:17 mark after taking a pass from
Kaylen Gerkey.
Alexandra Sobrino tied the match after her initial shot bounced off a TAMIU defender before firing in a second shot that found the back of the net at the 60
th minute.
Two minutes later Chandler put in her first score of the night after taking a pass from
Hannah Dozier, taking advantage of a one-on-one with goal keeper Noemi Salazar.
With seven minutes left to play in regulation, Jessica Garcia put in a shot from 40 yards out to tie the match at three. The teams would close out regulation tied at three.
Chandler struck again in the second overtime period for the game winner, giving UTPB its third victory of the season. The Falcons out-shot the Dustdevils 17-12, but both teams had eight shots on goal.
Victoria Ramirez picked up the victory in goal for the Falcons tallying three saves on the afternoon.
UTPB will remain at home on Sunday as the Falcons will host St. Mary's at 2 p.m.
