PORTALES, N.M – Eastern New Mexico scored two goals in the final nine minutes of action to break a 1-1 tie lifting the Greyhounds to a 3-1 win over The University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's soccer team.
Tyler Pate gave UTPB an early lead after scoring his third goal of the season at the 10 minute mark when his shot from the left side of the box found the back of the net. The Falcons would keep the lead until Kal Herbert tied the match with a header on a cross from Michael Stewart at the 42:04 point.
The teams would go into the break tied and it would stay that way before Diego Santos scored the game-winner at the 81
st minute. Alvaro Joly's initial shot hit the post which caromed to Santos, who rifled it in. Six minutes later, Herbert put in his second goal of the contest from 25 yard out.
The Greyhounds out-shot UTPB 28 to 11 with
Tyler Gibson tallying five for the Falcons. UTPB got just two of those shots on goal while Eastern New Mexico had 10.
Craig Branum picked up seven saves as the Falcons fell to 4-10 on the year.
