WICHITA, Kans. – Hannah Dozier and Saide Moya provided a one-two punch that was nearly enough to beat Newman, but the Jets eventually took a 3-2 overtime win over the University of Texas of the Permian Basin women's soccer team.
The teams played to a 2-2 tie through regulation until Newman's Sade Humphrey knocked in her eighth goal of the season 21 seconds into the extra period to give the Jets the win. Humphrey received a pass from Lauren Benning for the game-winner.
Dozier gave UTPB an early lead at the 4:11 mark when Moya gave her a through pass. Dozier knocked in a deflected her initial deflected shot for her eighth score of the season.
The lead would not last long as Amanda Knabe tied the match at one at the 31:47 mark when she headed in a corner kick from Megan Hostick. Just over 30 minutes later, Hostick gave the Jets a 2-1 lead when she knocked in a deflected shot.
With less than two minutes left in regulation Moya headed in a pass from Dozier to eventually force the match into overtime.
The Falcons took just seven total shots but made them count as five were on goal. Newman on the other hand had 11 of its 22 shots on goal. The tandem of Victoria Ramirez and Alexis Frueh combined to save eight shots with Ramirez stopping five.
The Falcons finished their season with a 4-13-1 record while Newman improved to 9-8.
