Avalon Munoz joined The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball coaching staff as a part-time assistant for Head Coach Rae Boothe in September 2026.
Munoz was UTPB's female nominee for the 2025 Lone Star Conference Athlete of the Year award and was named to the LSC All-Defensive Team as a senior (2024-25) as the team's starting point guard. She was also named Third-Team All-LSC in 2022-23, and was a three-time LSC Defensive Player of the Week in her career.
The 2022-23 season saw Munoz score a career-high 31 points with eight assists and six steals against Midwestern State (Jan. 14) before recording a triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high 10 assists at Midwestern State (Feb. 9). It was the first 10-assist performance in 12 years and was only the fourth triple-double in program history. In 2022-23, the Falcons won the most LSC games in program history (10) at the time and finished off the season by having the best week in their history as they beat two nationally-ranked teams who ultimately advanced to the NCAA tournament.
The 2023-24 season was by far the most successful season in UTPB women’s basketball history. This team set a record for most wins in a season (24), most LSC wins (17), and the highest regular-season standing in LSC history (3rd), made its first appearance in the LSC Tournament since joining the league in 2016. The Falcons advanced to the LSC Tournament Championship game and then were the No. 4 seed in their first NCAA South Central Regional Tournament. The Falcons finished their 2023-24 season with a record of 17-5 in the LSC and 24-8 overall, and were second in the LSC West Division with a record of 11-3. UTPB was the No. 3 seed in the LSC Tournament, their first appearance since joining the league in 2016, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the the first time since 2013.
In UTPB's 67-57 home win over Angelo State in its LSC opener on Saturday, November 23, 2024, Munoz became the Falcons' all-time leader in minutes played with 3,275 minutes at the time. Then with 8:15 to go in the second quarter of UTPB's 68-46 home win over Western New Mexico on Thursday, January 30, 2025, Munoz hit a long two-point jumper to reach the 1,000-career point mark. UTPB finished its 2024-25 season at the LSC tournament. This was the second year in a row and the second time in school history the Falcons advanced to the LSC Tournament. That season saw the Falcons win their second-most LSC games in a season and earn their second-highest finish in the LSC regular-season standings.
In the UTPB career record books, Munoz ranks first all-time in minutes played (4,063) and is second in games played (134), second in assists (525), second in steals (273), second in free throws made (383), second in free throws attempted (510), third in rebounds (531), third in points (1,059), third in field goals attempted (1,031), sixth in field goals made (311), and tied for ninth in 3-pointers attempted (262). She finished her career just two steals away from passing the school record of 274 steals and just 12 assists away from overtaking the school record of 536 assists.
Academically, Munoz was named to the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Team and earned the 2025 D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award. She was named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of her 10 semesters at UTPB, five times with a 4.0 GPA.
