Alex Hunt took over as head coach of the UTPB Tennis program in Spring of 2023 as a decorated player and coach at the collegiate level.

As a player, Hunt was a four-year letterman at Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Texas. He was named 2016 American Southwest Conference Freshman of the Year as well as conference MVP, in addition to taking home First Team All-Conference honors each year in singles and doubles from 2016-2019.  In 2019, Hunt was the American Southwest Conference (ASC) MVP, ASC Sportsmanship Player of the Year and male recipient of the ASC Medal of Honor male recipient which goes to the conference’s top male student athlete.

In August of 2019, Hunt joined the staff at Hardin-Simmons as a graduate assistant and stayed only a year before becoming the head coach at Western New Mexico University in 2020. In his final season with the Mustangs, he was named the 2022 Lone Star Conference Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year as well as the 2022 Wilson Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Central Region Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year.

Hunt brought immediate success to the Falcons in his first season, leading the men’s team to a 12-9 season in Spring 2023 including the program’s first ever victory over St. Mary’s. He also led the women’s team to an 8-15 record that included an upset victory of Lubbock Christian University. That offseason would see Hunt recruit the highest-rated class in program history.
