Zane Gibson enters his second season as assistant coach with the Falcons, and his first since being elevated to Associate Head Coach. Before joining the Falcons, Gibson had two successful seasons on the bench of UA Fort Smith, under Coach Newman. In those two seasons the Lions made back to back NCAA Tournaments, capturing the Heartland Conference regular season championship both seasons and won the conference tournament in 2016-17. Following the 2016-17 season Gibson was named to the NABC’s 30- under-30 list recognizing a group of up and coming coaches under the age of 30.

Prior to his stint with the Lions, Gibson was a graduate assistant for two seasons (2014-16) at NCAA Division I Middle Tennessee State, where he also played basketball from 2009-2014. During the 2015-16 season Gibson was a part of Middle Tennessee’s Conference USA Tournament Championship, that advanced to the NCAA Round of 32, upsetting No. 2 seed Michigan State. As a player Gibson was a member of four conference championship teams, while setting the school record for wins in 2012-13 with 27. The team won the Sun Belt Regular Season Championship and advanced to the NIT quarter-finals, knocking off in-state rival Tennessee along the way. The following season 2013-14 his team again broke the school record in wins with 28 and again winning the Sun Belt Regular Season Championship, where they received an atlarge bid to the NCAA Tournament. His senior class left the program as the winningest class in program history, with 95 over four years. Gibson graduated from Middle Tennessee with his Bachelor’s degree in history with a political science minor in 2014 and completed his masters in sports management in 2016 also from Middle Tennessee.  He resides in Odessa with his wife Teal.
