During his high school career, Seagraves had 42 catches for 967 yards and six touchdowns. Even though tight end wasn't his primary position in high school, the potential is certainly there for Seagreaves. As a tight end, Seagreaves has impressive hands and his production in high school has shown that he can have a productive collegiate career as a tight end... All-region selection in basketball as a junior, averaging 15.3 points and 8.7 rebounds... Co-holds the school record in track in the 4x100 meter relay, and holds the school record in basketball for all-time rebounds... Was a State Champion in track in the 4x200 meter relay... During January 2022 Seagreaves became the 12th player in Monroe Boys Basketball history to score 1,000 career points and also became the schools all-time leading rebounder... JT Seagreaves began the month of June unsure of the direction his athletics career might take him in college. He had just finished a productive May in which he earned three Division II basketball scholarship offers from Northern Michigan, Michigan Tech and Hillsdale College, as well as his first football scholarship offer from FCS school Illinois State. Seagreaves, who was wrapping up his junior year of high school, wanted to keep his options open as he awaited what came next. He couldn’t have anticipated that a five-day stretch in early June would change the trajectory of his college career, shoot him to the top of Wisconsin’s tight end recruiting board and ultimately make him a member of the Badgers’ 2022 football class. Seagreaves had caught all of six passes for 129 yards in four games as a wide receiver for nearby Monroe High School during a shortened spring football season that ended less than two months earlier. His team operated out of the Wing-T offense, which meant many snaps spent blocking and few opportunities to showcase his pass-catching abilities. But Mickey Turner, Wisconsin’s tight ends coach at the time who officially shifted roles this week into leading the program’s recruiting department, believed Seagreaves possessed the raw tools to earn a more serious look. He was an outstanding basketball player who had averaged 15.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a junior. He was 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds with good athleticism. And he was one of the best students at his high school. Seagreaves received an invitation to attend a Wisconsin football camp on Thursday, June 3. When he arrived, he worked with the rest of the tight ends on catching and blocking drills. Near the end of the camp, Seagreaves realized Turner wanted to bring him over to another field so he could run routes with the top quarterbacks at the session. When it was over, Turner personally drove Seagreaves back to his car so the two could continue their conversation. Only afterward did Seagreaves put it all together and realize just how much interest Turner had in him. As Turner would later put it, Seagreaves’ testing numbers that day were simply too good to ignore. Seagreaves, who played wide receiver his first three high school football seasons, moved to running back as a senior. He rushed for 1,288 yards and 18 touchdowns while adding 11 receptions for 212 yards and two scores. Seagreaves, a two-way player, earned first-team all-state honors as a defensive end when he recorded 62 tackles and six sacks. He finished his prep career with 42 receptions for 967 yards and six touchdowns. Seagreaves said he never played tight end in his offense but did block extensively, which is a skill he’ll need at Wisconsin. Before Seagreaves arrives on campus this summer, he has more business to take care of at his school. Seagreaves is wrapping up his senior basketball season for Monroe, which finished the regular season 18-5. He is averaging 21.4 points and 11 rebounds per game and has connected on 39.4 percent of his 3-pointers (28 of 71). Seagreaves said his basketball background has significantly contributed to his football success... Madison-area football preview - Players you need to know: The 6-foot-6, 225-pound Seagreaves, who’s orally committed to UW for football, was defensive player of the year and a first-team choice as a defensive end and receiver in the Rock Valley Large during the WIAA’s alternate fall season in the spring. This fall, with Monroe playing in the realigned Rock Valley, Seagreaves again will play defensive end, but likely will see time at right halfback in the Wing-T. Entering this season, he was ranked as the No. 2 senior tight end in the state and No. 11 senior overall by WisSports.net.
