Biography

High School:
Was 2025 First-Team All-State... First-Team All-District (2023-2025)... Had 24 career sacks and 246 total tackles... 2025 Midland Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY)... Named 2025 Reporter-Telegram Defensive MVP... Also competed in track: 55’7 shot put, 157 discus... Isaiah Mathews didn’t want to come off the field while playing for the Midland Christian football team in 2025. He was a full-time starter on the defensive line, but also played quite a bit of offense, seeing time at offensive tackle, tight end and running back. And if that wasn’t enough, he was on the special teams and blocked three field goal kicks... But the senior made his impact on defense as he terrorized quarterbacks and led the way with 14 sacks to go with 55 solo tackles, 28 tackles for loss, two pass breakups and forced three fumbles for a team that went 8-4 and went two rounds deep in the TAPPS Division II playoffs... He earned the District 1 Defensive MVP honor and garnered first team all-state recognition... Because of his effort this past season, Mathews is also being recognized as the 2025 Reporter-Telegram’s Football Defensive MVP... Mathews said that was undoubtedly his best year as a Mustang and the 14 sacks are believed to have set a single-season school record. He said the key to getting those sacks is not only beating the player in front of him but studying game film and determining what the quarterback’s tendencies are... Mathews registered 81 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and six sacks during his 2024 junior campaign. Mathews is a phenomenal athlete that put up two impressive marks in the shot put (50 feet, 9.5 inches) and discus (159-2) that track season as well... Football Is In His Blood: He started playing for Midland Christian in the seventh grade and since he got to high school, he said his growth as a player has been tremendous... In the spring, he is planning to once again compete for the MCS track & field team, throw the shot put and discus and maybe run a little... Mathews said he is glad he got to accomplish just about all of his personal goals while playing football at MCS and is looking forward to the next level.
