Transferred to UTPB... Named to the Spring 2026 Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Nelson University (2025):
Played in eight games and totaled eight receptions for 58 yards to go along with three kick returns for 47 yards.

Eastern New Mexico University (2023-2024):
AS A REDSHIRT FRESHMAN (2024): Played in six games... Caught one pass in road loss to Western Oregon (10/12)... Appeared in a win over New Mexico Highlands (8/29)... AS A FRESHMAN (2023): Appeared in three contests - Sul Ross State (9/9), Western Oregon (9/16), and MIdwestern State (9/23)... Named to Spring 2025 Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Legacy High School:
First-Team All-District wide receiver... 16 touchdowns... Won a district championship.,.. Also competed in basketball and track... Sonnier caught three passes for 137 yards and a pair of TD passes, all in the second half, in a convincing 48-3 blowout win over the Midland High in a District 2-6A football game at Astound Broadband Stadium (Oct. 28, 2022)... Legacy senior wide receiver Deonta Sonnier is proof that hard work, patience, and perseverance pays off. The 5-foot-11, 150-pound Sonnier has emerged as the Rebels’ top skill position player through three games as he leads the team with 18 receptions, 330 receiving yards and six total touchdowns scored. Sonnier has seen his role change drastically after he didn’t see the field much as a junior when he was playing behind Christopher Brazzell, who is now a true freshman receiver at Tulane University. Despite not playing much, Sonnier stuck to the script, as he kept attending the Rebels’ pre-school weightlifting sessions, was a constant presence in the summer strength and conditioning workouts, played other sports like basketball and track, and took care of his academics. The behind-the-scenes commitment is showing on the field for Sonnier, as he has become the favorite target of Legacy quarterback Marcos Davila. Sonnier had nine receptions for 176 yards and three touchdowns in LHS’ 56-20 win over Abilene High last week. The week prior he scored on an 87-yard kickoff return against Amarillo Tascosa. With his blazing speed, Sonnier has formed a great connection with Davila, a Division I quarterback prospect that has a rocket of an arm. When Brazzell was injured last year, Davila and Sonnier showed what they were capable of when they connected on a 68-yard TD pass in a 65-0 shutout of Odessa High. Sonnier has also improved his craft by going against standout cornerback Damien Johnson in practice. Johnson is his younger brother. “He and I have some type of competition going on,” Sonnier said. “I love to make him better and he always makes me better. Every time we go against each other, we always have that brotherly love, but we always have that fight and competition in both of each other.” Sonnier started playing the wide receiver position as a seventh grader when he was living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and it has remained his spot since moving to the Tall City as an eighth grader. Sonnier says it’s an ideal position for him because of his speed. He ran the first leg of the Rebels’ 400 relay team that finished fifth at the regional track meet this past spring. “I love to run up and down the field,” Sonnier said. “I wanted to be a DB, but I realized I wasn’t really that physical enough to come down and clash heads. I love going to score touchdowns. I love hearing my name called after I go and score a touchdown.”

Personal:
Likes spending time with family and friends... Committed to Eastern New Mexico with teammate and star running back Zeke Luna: Former Midland Legacy High School Running Back Zeke Luna and Wide Receiver Deonta Sonnier played football together throughout their junior high and high school career. They supported each other through personal struggles before playing a major role in the Rebels' bi-district title in 2022. In February of this year, both of them signed the dotted line and committed to Eastern New Mexico University.
