Tommy Crayton joins the UT Permian Basin staff for his first season as the Assistant Head Coach Offensive Tackles / Tight Ends Coach in 2024. Crayton comes to UTPB after serving as the Tight Ends Coach / Co-Special Teams Coordinator at FCS Western Illinois University.
Crayton brings experience from every level of college football. In 2022 at FCS Presbyterian College, he served as the Offensive Line Coach and Run Game Coordinator. He was recognized on the FootballScoop Minority Rising Stars Watch List.
Coach Crayton spent three seasons at Arkansas Tech University as the Offensive Line Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. At Tech he manufactured a unit that was a top 25 rushing attack in the nation. Additionally, that year, Tech landed five players on the GAC All-Conference team.
After his second stint as the Offensive Line Coach at Southeastern Oklahoma State, he spent the 2018 season at FBS Texas State, working with the offensive line. There he coached an All-Sun Belt performer up front.
Crayton spent the 2017 season at Florida Institute of Technology. Where he was apart of an offense that led the Gulf South Conference in a handful of offensive statistical categories and offensive players that landed spots on the Gulf South's All-Decade team.
Crayton went to Florida Tech after coaching the offensive line at Southeastern Oklahoma State in 2016. There he worked with a unit that broke numerous school rushing records. The offensive line paved the way for two 1,000-yard rushers, rushed for 30 touchdowns in a single season, rushed for 443 in a game, and posted a 5.3 yards per carry for the season.
Before his first stint at Southeastern Oklahoma State, he coached and assisted at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois. He began his coaching career at his alma mater on the defensive staff at Midland University.
A native of Austin, Texas, Crayton played two years at Independence Community College before moving on to Midland University. Crayton and his wife, Mercedes, have one son, Christopher, and daughter, Jordyn.
