Mitch Buhler enters his second season with UT Permian Basin, this season in charge of the quarterbacks. Last season Buhler led a running backs group that had three players average more than 40 yards per game and combined for 1,401 yards.
Jayvon Davis was electric, rushing for 461 yards and five touchdowns en route to an All-LSC honorable mention. Division I transfer Nathan Tilford led the team with 536 yards along with a pair of scores.
Buhler spent the previous three seasons at Iowa Central Community College, coaching quarterbacks and wide receivers. As quarterbacks coach, Buhler helped guide Demarcus Irons Jr. to lead the NJCAA in QB efficiency while earning conference Offensive Player of the Year and a member of the NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention Team. In his first year at Iowa Central, Buhler coached the wide receivers where the program saw four players move on to Div. I FBS programs.
Buhler spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons as the graduate assistant running backs coach at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma, working alongside current Falcon Special Teams Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach Rob Messinger. Prior to that, he spent the 2015 season at Washburn Rural High School in Kansas as an offensive assistant coaching quarterbacks.
Buhler played at Washburn University in Kansas from 2011-2014 where he was a three-year starter and team captain at quarterback. He graduated from Washburn in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. He then went on to get his Masters of Science degree in Health and Kinesiology from Northeastern State in 2018.
