Kyle Williams enters his second season as UT Permian Basin Defensive Passing Game Coordinator and assistant coach for the Secondary.
In Williams’ first season the Falcons had the most interceptions in a season as a program with eight while breaking up 28 passes. As a unit the Falcons allowed 891 fewer passing yards and 11 fewer touchdown passes from the 2017 season.Â
Williams came to UT Permian Basin after four seasons as defensive coordinator at Sul Ross in Alpine, Texas. In four seasons under Williams the Lobo Defense had 102 takeaways, 49 4th-down stops and scored 12 Defensive Touchdowns in 40 games. On average the defense forced the ball back 3.8 times per game. The Lobos finished Top 10 nationally in takeaways (second), fumble recoveries (first) and blocked kicks (sixth) during that time period. He also helped the special teams unit create 24 total blocked kicks and six special team’s touchdowns in 40 games. Over the course of four seasons Williams coached 25 All-Conference defensive players and nine earned All-American status.Â

Prior to Sul Ross he spent a season as a graduate assistant coaching defensive backs at the University of Southern California. Prior he spent two seasons at Evangel University as the Defensive Backs/Special Teams coach and Recruiting Coordinator, and was at Kansas State for two seasons as a graduate assistant for defensive backs and as Assistant Recruiting Coordinator.
A native of Pine Bluff, Ark., Williams played quarterback and safety at Watson Chapel High School, earning All-State honors. He also excelled in baseball, earning All-State honors as a centerfielder, and in basketball, as a shooting guard.Â
Beginning his career at Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, Texas, Williams earned All-American Cornerback honors before transferring to Kansas State, where he earned All-Big 12 honors as a safety while playing under Head Coach Bill Snyder and earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science.Â
Following his collegiate career, Williams joined the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent before beginning his coaching career.
