Gene Hudson

Coach Hudson joins the UTPB coaching staff after two years coaching at Mesa Community College. He was a vital part in turning around a team and changing the culture from a team that went 0-11 the previous season and had only won four games in five years into a successful program, by finishing both seasons in my tenure there as a  top 25 in the final NJCAA. Poll. He helped guide the team to two consecutive bowl games for the first time in over 30 years. In his time at Mesa community college the team played their first ever Conference championship game and played in two consecutive bowl games for the first time in 35+ years. Coached as the assistant defensive coordinator for the annual Arizona vs. Southern California All-Star game where the Team won 27-21, on a defensive touchdown.

In 2014, at Belhaven as the defensive backs coach, the pass defense ranked 15th in the NAIA, allowing just 166.4 yards per game. The secondary helped the Blazers defense also keep opponents to just a 33.8 percent conversion rate on third downs, also only gave up 16 touchdowns passing. In that same season kept two opponents under 31 yards passing with one being a win against a division two opponent. The 2015 season was another successful year, the  secondary finished number one in pass defense in the ASC conference where we held opponents to just a 157.3 yards per game, and only allowed 15 passing touchdowns, also led the conference in interceptions with 19 and also had two All American performers.  The 2016 season Belhaven secondary led the team in tackles with four of the top five tacklers on the team coming from the secondary position. And set a team record for passes defended.
